Arts

At Mankato Christian Academy, we believe the arts are essential to cultivating well-rounded, Christ-centered students. Through music, drama, and visual arts, high school students are challenged to develop their creative gifts, express truth and beauty, and glorify God with excellence. Whether performing on stage, composing music, or crafting visual works, students grow in discipline, confidence, and spiritual insight.

Performing Arts

Building Confidence and Craft on Stage

MCA’s high school performing arts program invites students to engage in dynamic theatrical experiences that build communication skills, critical thinking, and self-expression. Productions are grounded in Christian values and often explore redemptive themes through both original and classic works.

Highlights Include:

  • Fall or Spring Theater Production: Full-length plays or musicals and One Act plays offer students opportunities to act, direct, stage manage, and design sets.
  • Drama Electives: Courses in acting, stagecraft, and improvisation build performance skills while emphasizing storytelling with purpose.

Students learn to command the stage with humility, purpose, and passion—bringing stories to life in a way that honors God.

Music Arts

Equipping Musicians to Lead, Worship, and Create

The music program at MCA helps high school students refine their musical talents through vocal and instrumental study, ensemble performance, and worship leadership. Music is both a craft and a calling—and students are encouraged to pursue both with excellence.

Program Opportunities:

  • High School Choir: A vocal ensemble that performs regularly in concerts, chapels, and community events. Students learn vocal technique, harmony, and choral interpretation.
  • Guitar and Instrumental Music: Classes and small ensembles allow students to build skill in guitar, piano, or other instruments. Advanced students may compose or arrange their own music.
  • Music Theory & Composition: Elective courses offer foundations in reading music, songwriting, and the structure of musical design.
  • Performance Showcases: Semester concerts and fine arts festivals provide opportunities for public performance and feedback.

Whether students pursue music professionally or as a lifelong passion, they learn to use their gifts in service to God and others.

Visual Arts

Creating with Excellence and Purpose

In MCA’s high school visual arts program, students sharpen their creative instincts and technical skills across a variety of mediums. Art is not just an outlet for expression—it’s a way to explore meaning, convey truth, and reflect God’s image as Creator.

Program Features:

  • Drawing, Painting, and Mixed Media: Students work with charcoal, acrylics, watercolor, collage, and digital tools to explore form, color, and composition.
  • Studio Art Electives: Courses emphasize both foundational skills and independent projects. Students are encouraged to develop their own artistic style and voice.
  • Art Showcases: Student work is displayed during concerts, open houses, and annual showcases.
